Foods that Fight Fatigue

How many times have you found yourself trying to stay awake at those never ending meetings? A steaming cup of java may have pulled you out of a sticky situation or two, but the answer  to staying awake may be more complicated than you think. You may be confusing lack of energy and resulting fatigue with constant sleepiness. Health Me Up picks out five foods that fight fatigue to help you straighten that out.

#1 Food that Fights Fatigue: YoghurtYoghurt is a quick shot of energy. The natural sugars in it send your energy levels up. The protein in it releases energy slowly and keeps you going longer. Also, if had cold, yoghurt will chase away the drowsy feeling instantly. The pro-biotic bacteria in yoghurt is beneficial for your digestive system as well.#2 Food that Fights Fatigue: OatmealA small cup of oatmeal had either with milk or water will give you a quick boost of energy. The combination of carbs and fibre will keep you full longer. It is also rich in minerals like magnesium and phosphorus, which prevent fatigue.#3 Food that Fights Fatigue: Water or JuiceDehydration is one of the main reasons for fatigue. Drink a glass of cool water. Add some lime, sugar and salt to make up for the lost salts to boost you further. Or get a glass of a juice of a citrus fruit like orange or sweet lime. Vitamin C, vitamin A and B1 will help you go on for a while.#4 Food that Fights Fatigue: Nuts and seedsA handful of nuts like walnuts, almonds, raisins etc are rich in omega 3 fats. Add some flax seeds or sunflower seeds to them for more of the good fats. These unsaturated fats are burnt quickly releasing shots of energy. Also the natural sugar in the nuts will help you to keep going too.#5 Food that Fights Fatigue: Iron Rich FoodGet any food rich in iron like spinach. Iron is one of the major nutrients that help in fighting fatigue. Lack of iron or anaemia is one of the major causes of mental and muscle fatigue. Intake of iron will increase circulation, which will give a shot of oxygen to your brain and in turn energise you.*Image courtesy: © Thinkstock photos/ Getty Images
